4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Tomorrow’s cities will face exponential population growth and existential threats from the environment simultaneously. If cities are to persist and maintain, let alone improve quality of life, “point” solutions and interventions will not be enough. Urban-scale solutions, and joined-up, coherent design thinking will be needed. From net-zero skyscrapers to carbon-neutral cities, to transportation systems and parks that double as heat sinks and flood-control zones, in the megacities of tomorrow, “macro” will be the watchword. In this session, encounter the cutting edge of design research and practice that is helping cities rescue themselves from subsidence, sprawl, decay and fragmentation, emerging as inspiring examples to those facing similar challenges.
